Seems a tough one for you. I think Im one of those not too keen on changes to the "game itself".

Id have just limited changes to GUI improvements and enhancements (like spy capabilities, end game Mps etc), making it quicker to do a turn, so perhaps more people would be inclined to play multiple games if time is their limiting factor.

'tis a challenge for you thats for sure. It will be interesting to see how it works out and what the feedback is on the new variant.

I shall watch with interest. 8)

The European rework will have detractors regardless of it's outcome. What about the colonies? Why not eliminate ALL colonial initial holdings to help balance the European front. Why split up Morocco at all? Why not leave it all open? Why not extend Turkey all the way to Egypt? I agree Spain should not have all of Portugal and Sweden should not have all of Scandanavia. It would leave too few enemies to threaten. I am sure we can fine tune it with everyones input.

What about a simpler Game with 8 positions.

1) Russia - Wasaw - (Russias army list)

2) Prussia - CoR - (Prussia's army List)

3) Ottoman - Morocco (Ottoman Army list)

4) Sweden - DenmarK (Swedens Army List)

5) Italy - Naples (Italies army list)

6) France - Spain (Frances List)

7) Austria - Holland (Austria list)

8) Gb - Portugal (Gbs list)

Maybe some one can make a better pairings.

Rules

1) Each position becomes one country with 4 home territories.

2) We each make a start up position from scratch.

3) Maximum 2 winners

All the rest stays the same would we have enough interested parties?

Instead of combining the empires we could simply have a player signed up for both.

What is required for modifying the start positions?
1) liquidating starting brigade and ship units for the build costs
2) some method of building the new units: a special startup editor program, a spreadsheet, a few special turns in the current gui.

Next?

There used to be some excellent spread sheets to calculate troop cost etc with the old paper version you could then design your own start up using this and submit it.

Does any one have a copy of one of these spread sheets?

Hmm I know Don Parrott had alot of those programs he made himself in Excel for the paper version. Including programs that could predict roughly your Economy too. I will give him a call tonight and see if he still has them. I know I don't have them anymore.
