Of course, Julian wrote up his newsletter to prove how he has complete control of the game. If things didn’t work out as planned it can’t be because he isn’t an Austerlitz genius, it can only be that the rest of us are fools.

This is the last game for the British Mafia, and I am going to miss them. Their entire strategy depends on starting with a strong position and then lying to everyone about their alliance status, so I am afraid their best weapon is gone. I suppose they could take the last 3 or 4 positions in a game, but that isn’t their style. Julian Timothy did play 2 turns in another game once, but he took over a weak position and when another player declared war, he declared himself out of the game. We can’t expect Austerlitz Geniuses to play under the same circumstances as us the rest of us dullards, now can we.

Of course, now that they have proven that a 5 player, centrally-directed alliance on the side of the map can win, what else is left? Really, there can’t be any more challenges for them. They are certainly entitled to an august retirement, perhaps railing against those evil Icelanders and Greeks in letters to the editor. Once you have figured out how many angels can fit on the head of a pin, what else is there to accomplish?

Recently I was doing some house-cleaning on my hard-drive and rediscovered an old game analysis from the Mafia from back when I was on the inside of their select clique. I remember putting it to the side to finish later (it was cutting into my Quality Time with the Cat, you see) and unfortunately never did finish reading it. Sad to say, I still haven’t finished, too many references to the map and obscure calculations for my little brain. Still, if anyone wants an idea of what it looks like, simply perform this exercise: “Please explain the obvious in 1000 words or more”.

I am going to miss them.

Ignore them Don buddy.

Just a vain attempt of him to worry us, utter nonsense. This game is ours to lose. They havent done a thing that has me bothered at all.

I’m trying to get them to post on the Forum. The way they play the game is boring...boring...boring, I get my entertainment by slagging them on here and waiting for their all-to-rare replies.

“Despite the numerical advantage Portugal’s victory has proved Phyrric because he lost 54,996 casualties against Warsaws 88,820 casulaties.”Wow!!! Only 61% more casualties! My hat is off to you sir. The total for all three sims was 195k for Warsaw, 157k for Portugal. A series of brilliant victories for Warsaw! How did the Heavy Artillery and Garde Cheveuleger do? Portugal’s cavalry stinks, but you do what you can with them. I’ve already downloaded it to the sim-battle site.

“Movement plans this turn include a Warsaw retreat and rebuild whilst the Tom’s Russian army or my main Austrian army attempt to pin and destroy the Portuguese army on the battlefield this turn on the battlefield...”
Really really! Either I can’t count up to 24 up to 24 or Tom’s Russian army didn’t do a ‘9’ ‘9’. The main Austrian army? That’s it? It’s one thing to mislead the enemy, but are you guys so use to it that you are misleading each other? We have a 4 to 3 advantage, own the colonies and the oceans. We have a lot of options. We have even decided which 3 players are going to ‘win’rhe game, so it’s not going to do any good trying that crude propaganda.

Sim won. Bloody tought one as I expected considering the fort and entrenchments.

Won just by rnd 24. But is a critical win.

I actually lost a few thou more.

95,104 Austrian dead in their large fort versus my 108,972 Dutch troops.

Great and bloody fight, thanks Tim enjoyed that one! Need to read it in detail. 8)

Follow up sees me in the fort, with 110 feds vs 49. Tims SP's are pretty cr*ppy for him.....

Dutch win in the sim vs Warsaw.

75,139 H dead to 96,513 W.

Warsaws cavalry is gone.

The Dutch main army remains undefeated in Sims (didnt get chance to check the maths).

Fought 13, won 8, 5 undecided.

Seems now that France, Confed, Austria and Warsaw have all failed its the turn of the Russians.
This time however it seems the Dutch wont have time to refit, so perhaps a battle too far for the brave Dutch. :?

I’d like to welcome Julian to the long list of players who have destroyed one of my armies, but after 7 sims I am still alive and sim number 8 is coming up. I’ve already lost 2 armies in game 32 to 2 different players, but they were warriors, not accountants so they destroyed me with a lot more efficiency, even brutality. Death by accounting is a long, drawn-out affair. The Way of the Accountant is mysterious, known only to a few (“Know your debits, know your credits. In a hundred battles a hundred victories.”)

In case anyone is wondering, the secret to the British Mafia’s success is to build armies with 20 federations of heavy artillery, something that can be done only if you can play 3 or more positions in a game. The various members of the Mafia don’t play anymore, it’s tough to be a genius when you can only play one empire per game, and they don’t quite have the nachos to even try it.

Even the new password-encrypted GUI hurt them - one computer per position is the new rule, and when the new GUI came into use two ‘players’ dropped from this game. It’s tough being an accountant these days.

Game held? why? sent orders for Holland via email over a week ago have now tried to send again too every email address I currently have for Austerlitz. Sorry guys but if this game is processed without Hollands turn it finishes it for me. I have mailed GM to explain position and feel so strongly about this I will drop every position I am currently in. I know things have to improve but there appears to be some difficulty reaching GM now and uploading orders especially when trying to stand in for a turn or two for a player who may be having an immediate difficulty, I think this needs looked at.
