FRANCE
Imperial France is one of the most powerful nations in Austerlitz and boasts arguably the best troops, including the Old Guard and Guard Cavalry. It has a large population, strong colonial positions on both continent, and commands the respect if not fear of all other empires. sample GUI empire file Economy
France has a large European tax base with which to support a large army. As a large country there is no shortage of forest or mountains for lumber camps and quarries. It has many improved foodstuff, sheep breeding, horse breeding and vineyard resources, but is limited to a single ore mine. It has a relatively central location for its baggage trains to transverse Europe, and shipyards on both coasts for its merchantmen. There are significant Caribbean possessions, including New Orleans and several improved foodstuff coordinates. Unowned mines are proximal and up for grabs. A stronger position exists in India, especially with two trade cities: Calcutta and Saigon. France is in great shape to create wealth in the colonies via trade and conquering new territories. The Army
France boasts the best troops in Austerlitz, and starts with a European army unmatched by any of its neighbors. These ten brigades include 8 battalions each of elite Old Garde infantry (EF = 10), Garde de Corps heavy cavalry (EF = 10), and deadly Carabiniers (EF = 8). Only the French line infantry fail to excel and are slightly weaker in close combat compared to other empires (HC = 3). Superior French infantry march farther than normal, with 32 movement points. The French colonial forces are also significant, with three brigades and a commander in the Caribbean, and four Indian brigades. The Navy
The French navy consists of 26 ships and 1618 cannon. Similar to Spain, it is divided on three continents and ready to fulfill French ambitions. France has a naval morale of seven, second only to Great Britain, and higher than that of Spain.Strategy
France can choose immediate European expansion or to concentrate on the colonies. Regardless, France has only a single ore mine in Europe and can wait only so long before acquiring more. Diplomacy is still important as no country can stand alone. Many countries will attempt to ally with France early one, or at least open diplomatic channels. The small countries, Italy, Rhine and Holland, will look nervously to their larger neighbor. Great Britain and Spain are the chief rivals for the colonies. On paper France is much stronger than Spain in the beginning, and an early invasion would most likely be successful. However, France's neighbors will most likely not stand idly by and allow it to grow even more powerful without either intervening or receiving assurances that they will not be next. Conclusion
With its inherent strength France can dictate its own path in Austerlitz, yet it can not be fooled into believing that it is so powerful that it can survive alone. Only with skillful diplomacy will France be allowed to reach its potential. France offers the player an opportunity to experience all aspects of Austerlitz.
